ECSU Volleyball Overwhelmed by VSU, Sunday Afternoon

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University volleyball team was overwhelmed by Virginia State University Sunday afternoon in R. L. Vaughan Center, 0-3 (11-25, 22-25, and ). With the loss, ECSU falls to 2-22 overall and 2-12 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association; while VSU improves to 8-11 overall and 8-5 in the conference on the season.

The Lady Vikings stalled during the first set of competition against the Trojans, connecting on only four kills throughout. Virginia State came out on the attack, recording 14 kills and a .565 hitting percentage.

ECSU came alive in the second set, tallying 14 kills but couldn’t capture the set. A back and forth rally took the set to 22-25 final. The Lady Vikings fought hard up until the Trojans called a time out after ECSU rallied back to within two points. After the time out, VSU woke up and controlled the rest of the set, capturing the 22-25 set.

Set three, the Lady Vikings were overpowered 16-25. Senior Auzheure Jackson led ECSU with seven kills and eight digs. Senior Nikhaule Singleton and freshman Jahera Dangerfield each finished with five kills; while Jailyn Ivey led VSU with 14 kills. Miranda Bass finished with 33 assists and seven digs.

Elizabeth City State hosts Virginia Union University for Senior Day in the R. L. Vaughan Center Nov. 6 at 6 p.m.
