Lady Vikings Capture First Win of the Season ofver Lincoln (PA)

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University volleyball team capture its first win of the season over Lincoln (PA), 0-3 (12-25; 25-23; 25-21; 25-19) in the Vaughan Center Sunday afternoon.

ECSU (1-12 overall; 1-4 CIAA) got off to a slow start, dropping its first set on the afternoon 12-25. ECSU added three kills in the set before picking it up going into its second set.

The Lady Vikings showed some spark and excitement after capturing their first set victory on the season, defeating the Lions 25-23 during the second set of the contest. Elizabeth City State recorded six kills in the set and a serve ace. The set was back and forth but the Viking came out victorious.

ECSU took a quick lead to start set three, before displaying more poise and heart, taking another set 25-21. The Lady Vikings wouldn’t be shook by the Lions fight. The Lady Vikings tallied a season team high 12 kills during the set. In the forth and final set, Elizabeth City State came out blasting on all cylinders, jumping out to a 17-9 lead.

Freshmans Jahera Dangerfield and Elizabeth Cagle recorded seven kills each to lead the team; while senior Lauren Bur-gess added 12 digs and 22 assists in the victory. Senior Nikuale Singleton and junior Zhiasia Bazemore recorded six digs each; assisting the victory.

Mariah Russell led Lincoln with 18 kills; while Tiera Russaw added eleven and seven digs in the effort. Alisa Foster tallied 28 assists; while leading LU in that category.

ECSU is set to host Bowie State University tomorrow, Monday, September 25 in the R. L. Vaughan Center at 6 p.m.
