LADY VIKINGS DROP FIRST HOME GAME OF 2007; FALL TO CHOWAN IN FOUR GAMES

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Viking volleyball team saw their unblemished home record come to an end at the hands of Chowan University Monday night at the R.L. Vaughan Center in four games (30-22, 24-30, 33-31, 30-27).

After the first two games were split by Chowan and ECSU, respectively, the Lady Vikings had game point at 31-30. Then the Lady Hawks (21-8), reeled off three straight points to take the momentum and go up 2 games to 1. Like the first three, game four was equally competitive but the Lady Vikings committed 13 errors to negate their 13 kills, propelling Chowan to victory. Both Antoinette McCollough and Kristen Stroud contributed 15 kills apiece for the Lady Hawks.

Defensively the Lady Vikings were hard to shake, besting the visitors +11 in digs (74 to 63). Eva Johnson paced ECSU with match highs of 18 kills and 23 digs.

The Lady Vikings (17-9) will look to officially seal up the 2007 CIAA Eastern Division Championship when they host Virginia Union University on Thursday, November 1st. ECSU will also bid farewell to their lone senior, All-CIAA middle blocker Christina Hager as she will be participating in her final volleyball game at the R.L. Vaughan Center.
