Coach Linda Bell will be entering her fifth season at the helm of the ECSU Women's Volleyball program. Last year she had the distinction of leading the Lady Vikings to their first Division Title in ECSU history and to their the third consecutive CIAA tournament berth after being absent from the post season since 2002. Their historic season ended in the CIAA semi-finals, the first appearance for the Lady Vikings that deep in championship play. Under her leadership the Lady Vikings will continue to focus on excellence in education, stamina, endurance, hustle, heart, and spirit. A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Bell was a three-sport athlete at William Fleming High School. After graduating from Fleming in 1991, she attended Saint Paul College were she continued to be a three sport athlete, playing volleyball, basketball, and softball. Being a versatile player, earned Bell All CIAA candidate honors. Bell accumulated over a 100 services aces in her career in volleyball and was the 2nd leading scorer in the conference in basketball her senior year averaging 22 points a game. Her freshman year talents landed her on the All Rookie team in softball and in 1995 she captured the NCAA Division II title for stole bases. Her leadership skills were rewarded as she was named the team captain in each sport from 1993-1995. Bell earned a degree in Business Administration Endorsement Secondary Education in 1991. Upon graduation in 1996, Bell was named head volleyball coach at Emory and Henry College. She then returned to her hometown in 1997 and began teaching at Patrick Henry High School in the Business Department. In 1998 Bell, returned to the CIAA as she was named the head volleyball coach/senior woman administrator at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. In 2000 she added the title of softball coach. In her 7-year stint at Livingstone she was involved with facilities management, budgeting, student athlete welfare, community service, recruiting, and compliance. In her second season Bell took the Blue Bear to the CIAA Championship Tournament. In 2002 Bell attended NCWAA Hers Institution for Women in Administration and in 2004 obtained her Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Bell was named the head volleyball coach at ECSU in 2004 and added the title of compliance coordinator in 2005. She is a member of the NCAA Division II Softball Championship Committee, Black Coaches Association, American Volleyball Coaches Association and is treasurer of the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association. |
