Lady Vikings Fall Short in 2017 CIAA Tennis Tourney to Shaw

April 21, 2017

BOWIE, Md. – After a brief rain delay halting everything, the Elizabeth City State University women’s tennis team faced and fell to No. 2 seed Shaw University, 5-0 during the opening round of the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament Thursday afternoon at the Bowie State Tennis Complex.

“We knew that we were outgunned from the get go,” said head coach Richard Harfst. “This is the third time we have faced coach Enitan’s squad since I’ve been coaching here at ECSU and just have too much firepower for us. I’m thankful that our ladies always conduct themselves with great professionalism and sportsmanship throughout the entire season.”

Shaw took all three doubles points at love, 8-0. Although we struggled in doubles, freshman Kayla Ward dug deep to take a couple of sets in her singles match-up on court No. 2. The Lady Bears clinched 6-0; 6-0 wins on singles court No. 4 and No. 5 closing out the contest, 5-0 over ECSU.

The Lady Vikings close out its 2017 season with a 3-11 record overall, 3-11 in the conference, and 2-3 in the CIAA Northern division.
