ECSU Women's Tennis to Compete in 2017 CIAA Championship Tourney

April 19, 2017

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. -- After finishing their season 3-10 overall, head coach Richard Harfst and the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings are set to compete in the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship Tournament held at Bowie State University Tennis Complex Thursday, April 20 at 10 a.m.

Entering the tournament as the No. 7 seed, this is the first time making it to the tourney in eight seasons (since 2009) for the Lady Vikings and the first post-season match for the young enthusiastic second year head coach.

"We are excited to be able to make the trip up to Bowie, Md. to represent ECSU in this year's tournament," said Harfst. "Competing as the No. 7 seed, matched us up against a strong No. 1 seed in Shaw University for the opening round. They are an excellent team and we're looking forward to enjoying every moment being here."

Having defeated Fayetteville State University head-to-head 5-2, is the reason for the team earning the No. 7 spot; while FSU finished No. 8 in the league.

"It's my first time coaching a team to the CIAA tourney," stated Harfst. "I'm extremely proud of this group and I'm hoping that this accomplishment sinks in for them."
