ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State women's tennis team dropped two division matches to Virginia State University on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Trojans move to 10-4 overall and 9-3 in league play while the Lady Vikings slip to 0-9 (CIAA 0-9) on the year.

VSU earned a 9-0 win in the opening match of the day and held a 6-0 lead after singles play in the second match, resulting in a 6-0 win for the Lady Trojans.

Virginia State rolled through doubles and singles play in in both games and earning shutout wins with the exception of an 8-1 match between Monet Graves (w) and Jamilia Foster

In Thursday's first match, Graves and Zaire Simmons teamed up for an 8-0 victory over Foster and Chalise Greenwood in the number one position. The team of Nakesha Harry and Majhanae Thomas blanked Brendai Perry and Cache' Nance 8-0 in the number two spot while Sharmane Tonkins and Tamisha Richardson defeated Melissa Reid and Avery Givens in the third position.

Virginia State grabbed six quick victories in singles play with the same lineup to earn a 6-0 victory in the second match. The Lady Vikings trailed by too many to overcome the deficit, resulting in the abbreviated match.

ECSU will hit the road to face Shaw University tomorrow in Raleigh, NC.
