ECSU Softball Overwhelmed by VSU on Senior Day

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – After a tough outing on Saturday against Virginia Union University, the Elizabeth City State Uni-versity softball team took on rival institution Virginia State University and was swept by the Lady Trojans, 10-0 and 17-1.

With the losses, the Lady Vikings fell to 1-22 on the season and 0-8 in conference action; while VSU improved to 11-18; 7-6.

Game 1: the Lady Vikings had no answer for Virginia State, collecting only one hit off VSU’s Dominique Mulero, who threw a one hitter in seven innings of work; while gifting only five base on balls and eight strikeouts in 21 batters faced. Senior second baseman Khadijah Rogers was the recipient of the hit to right field.

Senior Hurler Kelsey White took the loss for the Lady Vikings in the contest; gifting ten runs and eleven hits in 34 batters faced.

Game 2: although ECSU took the loss; their batts woke up, recording three hits and a run in the 17-1 defeat. Being in a transitioning year, the Lady Vikings as a team is now hitting .170 on the year, with 76 hits, 41 runs, 18 doubles, one tri-ple, a homerun, and 33 RBI.

Senior Hurler Kayley Surrento took the loss in game two, gifting five hits and eight runs in two innings of work.

The Elizabeth City State softball team next travels to Bowie, Md. to face Bowie State University on April 22 in a double-header at noon and 2 p.m.
