Lady Vikings Softball Snaps 10-Game Losing Streak With Victory Over Bluefield State College

CARY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings softball team snapped a 10-game losing streak Sunday afternoon at Thomas Brooks Park after capturing their first victory on the season over Bluefield State College.

With the victory, ECSU is now 1-10 on the season; while BSC falls to 0-8.

Elizabeth City State collected at least two runs in each of the five innings recorded. The team added six runs in the third, three runs in the fourth, and four runs in the fifth, capping a 19-0 victory.

The Lady Vikings scored quickly in the top of the first inning, after a walk, a stolen base, and a pass ball to start the game. Senior short stop Kayley Surrento recorded the game’s first run on the afternoon on an error by the left fielder. ECSU added three more runs in the inning off doubles to left field from senior hurler Kelsey White and junior first baseman Ashante Spruill.

White led the charge for ECSU recording three hits in four at bats; including six runs batted in, and four runs. Spruill tallied three hits in five at bats; including four RBI. Sorrento went 2-for-4 with four runs scored; while both senior catcher Casey Cartwright and freshman third baseman Alyssa Griffin went 2-for-5 on the day each, respectfully. Junior left fielder Meghan Hines went 2-for-4 to round out the players with multiple hits on the day.

As a team, the Lady Vikings tallied a season-high 15 hits and 19 RBI against Bluefield State College.

White captured her first victory on the season on the mound today, gifting only two hits in five innings, four strikeouts, and no walks in 19 at bats.

The Lady Vikings host Pfeiffer College Tuesday at the ECSU Softball Field in a double-header at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
