Final Stats

RICHMOND, VA- Virginia Union University captured two CIAA Northern Division victories over Elizabeth City State University Saturday afternoon at the VUU Softball Field.

The Lady Panthers improved to 14-11 (CIAA 7-6) by edging ECSU 1-0 in game one and went on to take the second game of the doubleheader 9-0.

Jareece Sayles pitched both shutouts for the Lady Panthers who sit in third place in the division behind Chowan University and Bowie State. The two wins goes a long way in helping VUU solidify a spot as one of the top four teams at next week’s CIAA softball tournament.

In game one the two teams played to a scoreless tie though six and a half until Tyana Daniels reached on a single to the short stop. VUU’s next batter Sayles, then doubled to center field and Daniels beat the throw to home for a thrilling 1-0 win.

In the second game, Taylor Hamilton drove in six runs with two homers while Sayles pitched six innings of shut-out ball. Hamilton hit her first homer in the third inning and her second in the sixth inning. Sayles struck out seven batters in the victory.

VUU's Breanna Miller ended the game by slugging a two-run home run.

In the two games, the Lady Vikings combined to strand thirteen runners, seven of which came in the 1-0 loss in the first contest.
