ECSU SPLITS TWO WITH JCSU
April 1, 2005
ELIZABETH CITY, NC-The Elizabeth City State University softball team split a home doubleheader with Johnson C. Smith University yesterday in Elizabeth City. Freshman Tiffany Smith picked up the first win of her career as starting pitcher for ECSU. In four complete innings, Smith faced 18 batters, allowing one hit. At the plate, the Lady Vikings got out to an early lead scoring six runs in the first inning. ECSU would collect runs in each inning including four in bottom of the fourth to put the game out of reach for the opposition. In the nightcap, ECSU again jumped out to an early 3-0 lead at the close of the first inning. However a stingy JCSU defense would hold ECSU scoreless for the duration of the game. After JCSU's Bettina Murray scored their first run on an error, the Lady Golden Bulls would add a run in each of the final three innings to edge ECSU 4-3. The Lady Golden Bulls improve to 9-13 (CIAA 7-7) while ECSU slips to 4-4, all in conference play. ECSU will be on the road this Sunday, April 3rd as they will travel to face Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. Game one of the CIAA double header is slated for 1:00pm at Kelsey-Scott Park. |
