BOSTON, MA- Tiffany Johnson and George Harris represented Elizabeth City State University at the NCAA Leadership Academy held in Boston, MA September 27-29.

The Mid-Atlantic and New England Regions hosted the 2009 Division II Leadership Academy, September 25-27. The conference took place at the Hilton Boston Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts. By attending the conference, NCAA student-athletes, coaches and administrators were able enhance their leadership skills and formulate a strategy to positively affect their campus, conference and communities in the future. Attendees participated in numerous educational sessions which will impact the development and growth of student-athletes on campus or within their conference. Sessions offered at the conference will allowed participants a greater understanding of the NCAA, the Division II governance and legislation process, and the Division II National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Other issues like; sportsmanship, diversity, nutrition, mental health, game environment allowed participants to explore how to play an active role, as an agent of change, in reference to these critical topics. Using the knowledge gained at the conference, participants will set out to create positive and lasting change throughout the NCAA structure, their communities and the world.

Johnson and Harris represented ECSU and the CIAA at the Academy. They were accompanied by Tim Orr. Johnson will be a senior on the Lady Viking bowling team while Harris is entering his sophomore season on the ECSU golf team.

Five CIAA schools were represented at the Academy. Virginia State University was represented by Dominique Dunn, William Richardson and Chiante Wester. Fayetteville State University was represented by Jamel Carpenter, Doniecia Ebron and Peggy Green. Chowan University was represented by Patricia Price, Thomas Byrd and Coach Patrick Mashuda. Livingstone College was represented by Christina Jones, Joseph Taylor and Darren J. Hamilton.
