Vikings Lady Bowler Jana’ Boyd Named 2017 CIAA Player of the Year

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) named Elizabeth City State University’s women bowler Jana’ Boyd the 2017 Player of the Year and to the ALL-CIAA first-team.

Boyd exhausted her junior campaign as the top bowler in the CIAA with an average of 192.97 and is the first ever ECSU bowler to receive the honor. Virginia State University’s Rebecca Clements was second behind Boyd with an average of 191.71.

In 30 conference games played, Boyd knocked down a total of 5,789 pins. In her first 10 games during the second CIAA event, Boyd averaged a 206.20; while downing 2062 pins. In her second event, she averaged a 197.10 with a total of 1971 pins in 10 contests and in the final event, Boyd connected on 1756 total pins with an average of 175.60.

As a team, Elizabeth City State University finished its 2016-17 season last in the CIAA Northern division with a 5-34 overall record, a 5-34 conference record, and a 0-24 record in the CIAA North. On the season in team match play the Lady Vikings tallied 17,489 total pins and in baker match play tallied 9033 total pins; equaling 26,522 total pins.
