ECSU BOWLING FINISHES FOURTH AT CIAA CHAMPIONSHIP

Brooke Roberts was named to the 2015 CIAA Bowling All-Tournament Team. The Lady Vikings finished fourth overall at the championship.

CHESAPEAKE, VA- The Elizabeth City State University bowling team finished fourth overall at the 2015 Bowling Championship held March 20-22 at AMF Western Brach Lanes.

ECSU's Brooke Roberts, a 2015 All-CIAA performer, was named to the All-Tournament team after posting the second highest average at the event. Over a 5-game span, Roberts had a total pin fall of 915, and average of 183.00. Her personal best for the weekend was an event high 233.

Jana Boyd also placed in the top ten (8th overall) with an average of 169.40. Competing in the elimination bracket, the Lady Vikings topped Virginia Union 4-1 and Shaw University 4-0 before falling in the quarterfinals to Virginia State (4-1).

Virginia State eliminated Fayetteville State before facing Bowie State in the championship round. Bowie State defeated defending champion Trojans 4-1 in the finals to finish unbeaten in four bracket play matches.

Led by Co-Most Valuable Bowlers Ambrianna Bankston and Shayla Lightfoot, Bowie State won the last three games in the championship match to earn its fifth CIAA title, including its third in six seasons. After Virginia State won game two 173-165 to even the match at 1-1, Bowie State captured the next three games 149-138, 183-165 and 147-134 for the victory. The game one score was 169-142, Bowie State.

The All-CIAA Tournament team consists of Brittany Rowe of Johnson C. Smith, Sierra Davis of Bowie State, Nicole Sciortino of Saint Augustine's, Brooke Roberts of Elizabeth City State and Rebecca Clements of Virginia State.
