LADY VIKINGS STILL ALIVE IN CIAA BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP

CHESAPEAKE, VA- After two complete days of competition, the Elizabeth City State University remains as one of eight teams still vying for the 2015 CIAA Bowling Championship.

The #3 seeded Lady Vikings were upset by #6 Shaw University on Saturday, dropping ECSU to the elimination bracket for the final day of championship play. Shaw topped Elizabeth City State 4-2 in the double-elimination Baker bracket which will determine the conference champion.

The Lady Bears join top seed Bowie State University, No. 2 seed Virginia State University and No. 4 seed Fayetteville State University in the winner's bracket.

Elizabeth City State faces Virginia Union and Saint Augustine's goes up against Johnson C. Smith in the elimination bracket.

Bowie State earned the top seed by amassing the highest pin count after Baker matches were completed in the preliminary round earlier Saturday. Seeding was determined by the total pinfall in preliminary team matches Friday and preliminary Baker matches Saturday.

Bowie State tallied 8,316 total pins followed by Virginia State with 8,097 pins. Elizabeth City State was third with 7,987 pins and Fayetteville State placed fourth with 7,674 pins.

Saint Augustine's earned the fifth seed with 7,614 pins and Shaw was sixth with 6,984 pins. Johnson C. Smith was seventh with 6,964 pins and Virginia Union was eighth with 6,832 pins.

The championship meet concludes Sunday, March 22, with quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. The first set of matches begins at 9 a.m. Catch all of the action on the CIAA.com, where Sunday's matches will be livestreamed.
