ECSU BOWLING FINISHES THIRD AT FINAL DIVISION MEET OF THE SEASON

PETERSBURG, VA- The Elizabeth City State bowling team wrapped up the regular season with a third place finish at the Eastern Division Meet III March 6-8 hosted by Virginia State University at Walnut Hill Lanes. In head to head play (each team played each other twice) ECSU went 5-3, falling to Saint Paul's and dropping both matchups with Virginia State University. On day three the Lady Vikings, who entered the weekend's competition tied atop the Eastern Division with Bowie State, posted a 3-1 record in Baker Play despite having the highest total overall pin count (4569 Baker score) . The Bowie State Lady Bulldogs, the lone team to defeat ECSU in Baker Play (4561 Baker score), finished the weekend with a meet best 10-2 record. Virginia State came in second (8-4) followed by ECSU (8-4), Saint Paul's (5-7) and Virginia Union (0-12). VSU held the tiebreaker over ECSU since they defeated the Lady Vikings in both head-to-head matchups. Tiffany Johnson boasted the highest average of all Lady Viking performers with a 198.50 average, which tied at second best overall for the meet. She also rolled a team high 225 in ECSU's win over Bowie State on Saturday. ECSU placed fourth bowlers in the top 15 overall including Johnson, Shanice Watkins, Ryan Backus and Jessica Dunn. VSU's Dannielle Gammon claimed the meet's high game with a 278 in the Lady Trojans final match against ECSU. She was the only competitor to amass a total individual pin fall of over 2,000 (2,051).
