Lady Vikings Defeat Bluefield State, Tuesday Evening at Home

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University women’s basketball team defeated Bluefield State University 75-51 Tuesday evening in the R. L. Vaughan Center.

With the victory, the Lady Vikings improved to 6-4; while B-STATE fell to 1-11 on the season.

Elizabeth City State jumped to an early 22-13 lead going into the second quarter. The Big Blues started charging back with multiple three pointers from Lyric Hampton, who recorded a team-high 21 points in the contest.

ECSU went into the half ahead 34-30 after shooting 23.3 percent from the field, 25 percent from behind the line, 77.3 percent from the foul line; while Bluefield State shot 35.5 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from behind the arc, and 50 percent from the foul line.

The Lady Vikings pulled away from the Big Blues in the third quarter, outscoring BSU 26-9. Elizabeth City State shot 37.7 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from behind the arc, and 75 percent from the free throw line for the game; while Big Blue State finished shooting 30.9 percent from the floor, 32 percent from downtown and 56.3 percent from the candy stripe.

Senior guard Jalyn Brown recorded a game-high 23 points to lead ECSU; while sophomore forward Devona Stell added 18 points, and sophomore guard Tamara Harvey tallied 12 points. Freshman forward Quianna Boone-Fudge recorded her first double-double on the season, hitting 12 points and pulling down a career-high 15 rebounds during the contest; while rounding out the players in double-figures.

The Lady Vikings and Vikings open their conference slate on the road in Raleigh, N.C. Thursday, Dec. 14 and Saturday, Dec. 16. Both teams will face Shaw on Thursday, with the women’s game starting at 6 p.m. and the men’s game to follow. Saturday, the teams face St. Augustine’s beginning at 2 p.m.
