Lady Vikings Victorious in Home Opener over Newport News Apprentice

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University women’s basketball team overwhelmed Newport News Ap-prentice, 78-46 Tuesday evening in the R. L. Vaughan Center to capture its second victory on the season.

Devonna Stell led the Lady Vikings with 17 points and 12 boards; while recording her second double-double on the season.

For the game, ECSU shot 52.9 percent from the floor, 50.0 percent from the behind the arc, and 80.8 percent from the foul line; while Barton finished with 23.1 percent from the floor, 17.4 percent from downtown, and 40.0 percent from the candy stripe.

The Lady Vikings jumped out to an early 19 (23-4) point first quarter lead and never looked back. Senior guard Jalyn Brown added 16 point; while Quianna Boone-Fudge helped the ECSU charge defensively grabbing eleven boards and compiling eight points. Senior guard Charlise Greenwood tallied nine points.

The Builders were led by Ylexzis Traeger, who added 18 points in the effort.

The Lady Vikings are set to face Francis Marion University, Saturday, November 18 at 2 p.m. in the R. L. Vaughan Center.
