Eason Tallies 16 as the Lady Vikings Capture First Victory on Season Over Cheyney

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sophomore guard Anaya Eason tallied a game-high 16 points to lead the Elizabeth City State University women basketball team to its first victory on the season over Cheyney University, 57-52 Saturday afternoon in Brayboy Gym.

With the victory, Antonio Davis capture his first win as head coach and the Lady Vikings improve to 1-1; while the Wolves fall to 0-2 on the season.

Offensively for ECSU, sophomore forward Devona Stell and senior guard Jalyn Brown each recorded 13 points; while freshman guard Quianna Boone-Fudge collected 14 boards and four steals to lead the Lady Vikings defensively. Stell also recorded ten boards, gifting her her first career double-double on the season.

Elizabeth City State struggled in the first quarter shooting only 31.3 percent from the floor and recording only eleven points. The Lady Vikings took a 13-11 lead in the second quarter off an Eason jumper; while igniting a 22-11 run to close out the half. ECSU took a 33-21 lead into the half and never looked back.

The Lady Vikings shot 35 percent from the field on 21-of-60 shooting, 20 percent from behind the arc, and 59.1 percent from the candy stripe. As a team, ECSU recorded 30 points in the paint, 18 points off turnovers, eleven second chance points, and eight fast break and bench points throughout the contest.

Yasmine Donelson recorded a double-double for the Wolves scoring 15 points and collecting 16 boards in the effort. Gianni Hill tallied 14 points and TaKalya Ellis recorded 10 to round out the Cheyney players in double figures.

The Lady Vikings host the Apprentice School Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the R. L. Vaughan Center.
