ECSU VIKINGS BASKETBALL: Sixth Seeds Entering 2017 CIAA Tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A day after honoring its seniors, the Elizabeth City State University men’s and women’s basketball teams enter the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tournament sixth seeds in Charlotte, N.C.

ECSU women basketball will face the CIAA South No. 3 seed Winston-Salem State University at 4:30 p.m.; while men’s basketball face CIAA South No. 3 seed Johnson C. Smith on Tuesday, Feb. 21 in Bojangles Arena.

The Lady Vikings fell 72-44 to Bowie State University Saturday afternoon in the Vaughan Center, entering the tournament at 5-19 overall, 3-13 in conference play, and 1-9 in the Northern Division.

The Vikings dropped a close one to Bowie men’s team, 68-65 and sits at 2-22 overall, 2-14 in conference play, and 1-9 in the CIAA north.

Sophomore guard Jalyn Brown pace ECSU women’s basketball with 12 points per contest; while junior forward D’Asya Wilson spearheads the team with 7.6 boards per game.

The Lady Rams are paced by Kandance Tate, who averages 9.8 points per game and is tied with teammate Jasmine Carter with 5.8 rebounds per game.

Senior guard Elon Edwards leads ECSU men’s team with 13.7 points per game; while senior forward Jordan Jones adds 11.7 points per game and leads the team with 5.4 boards per contest. Freshman forward John Maynor tallies 10.3 points per game for the Vikings.

The Golden Bulls enter the tournament led by Robert Davis with 17.1 points per game; while Christian Williams leads the team with 8.1 boards per contest.
