ECSU Women Basketball Falls to Bowie, Saturday Afternoon

BOWIE, Md. – The Elizabeth City State University women’s basketball team fell 49-33 to Bowie State University in A.C. Jordan Arena Saturday evening.

With the loss, ECSU falls to 4-12 on the season, 2-8 in CIAA play, and 2-6 in the Northern division; while BSU improves to 16-5; 8-3.

The Lady Vikings shot 6-of-24 (25%) from the floor and 3-of-9 (33.3%) from behind the arc in the first half. ECSU trailed by only two points going into the half, being outshot in free throws, 7-0.

Sophomore guard Jalyn Brown paced Elizabeth City State with nine points; while senior center Jasmine Nixon added seven points and nine boards on the afternoon.

For the game, ECSU was 13-of-46 (28.3%) from the field, 4-of-14 (28.6%) from downtown, and 3-of-5 from the line. The Lady Vikings had only five free throw attempts throughout the entire game, which all came in the second half.

Kyah Proctor led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points; while Kyaja Williams added a double-double, recording eleven points and eleven boards. Lisa Jing tallied eleven points and seven boards in the victory, rounding out Bowie’s scorers in double figures.

The Lady Vikings continue their two-game road trip as they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to face Winston-Salem State University, Monday Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. at the CE Gaines Center.
