ECSU Basketball to Host Virginia Union, Wednesday evening

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University men’s and women’s basketball teams host Virginia Union University Wednesday, Jan. 25 here on campus in the R. L. Vaughan Center. Tip-off for the women is slated for 5:30 and the men’s team to follow.
The Lady Vikings enter the contest 4-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play; while the ECSU men’s team enters Wednesday’s game 0-15 overall and 0-8 in conference play.
Elizabeth City State women’s team is coming off a 65-33 loss to Johnson C. Smith University Monday evening in Charlotte. Senior guard Jalyn Brown paced the Lady Vikings with 10 and was the only ECSU player in double-figures.
The Vikings dropped a close one to JCSU, 68-61. Freshman forward John Maynor led the charge with 16 points; while sophomore guard Shyheid Petteway recorded 14 and senior forward Jordan Jones tallied eleven.
The VUU women’s team comes into Wednesday’s game undefeated and ranked No. 2 in the Nation in Division II basketball with a record of 17-0; 8-0; while the men set at 15-5; 7-1. The women’s team is spearheaded by Brittney Jackson with 17.5 points per game; while the men are led by Ray Anderson, who averages 18.7 points per contest.
