ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University women’s basketball team fell to Claflin University in a non-conference matchup Wednesday evening, 80-71 in the R.L. Vaughan Center.

The Lady Vikings (7-7) jumped out to an early lead, but wasn’t able to sustain in the final minutes of the contest. The Panthers went on a 10-4 run to knot the game up at 65-all at the end of regulation. In O.T., ECSU couldn’t make a basket as Claflin went on a 15-6 run to close out the 80-71 contest.

Senior guard Jalyn Brown led all scorers with 32 points; while sophomores Devona Stell and Tamara Harvey added 10 points each in the effort.

Claflin (12-7) had five players in double-figures and was led by both Dominique Williams and Ashley Fields with 19 points. Jhanice Stokes added a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards; while Joy Okeke and Deja Dickens tallied 12 each in the victory.

ECSU shot 41.7 percent from the field, 53.3 percent from downtown, and 61.9 percent from the candy stripe; while the Panthers shot 42 percent from the floor, 22.7 percent from downtown, and 63 percent from the foul line.

Both teams are scheduled to host Lincoln University Saturday, Jan. 20 here at the R. L. Vaughan Center. First game is slated for 2:00 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 4:00 p.m.
