Lady Vikings Look to Get Back on Track at Chowan, Saturday Afternoon

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University women’s basketball team will travel to face Chowan University in Murfreesboro, N.C., Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Helms Center, after an 88-49 defeat to Livingstone College. ECSU stands at 4-8 on the season, 2-2 in league play. Against the Lady Blue Bears, senior center Jasmine Nixon and freshman guard Anaya Eason paced the Lady Vikings with nine points each, respectively. Junior forward Chalise Greenwood added eight points; while Nixon also grabbed 12 boards.

The Hawks enter the contest 10-4, 3-1, following their 82-71 loss to Johnson C. Smith University on Jan. 5.

THE SERIES: ECSU leads the all-time series 9-6 dated back to the 2008-09 season and has won three of the past six meetings dated back to Jan. 18, 2014.

COACHES: John Hill is in his first season as head coach at ECSU and he owns an 161-241 ledger in 15 years.

LaToya Jones is in her first season with the Hawks and owns a 10-4 ledger at Chowan.

VIKING TIDBITS:

• This is the first CIAA Northern division conference game for Elizabeth City State this year.

• CU has won five of the last six in this series and three in a row in Murfreesboro (by an average of just 10.0). ECSU’s last win over Chowan was Feb. 7, 2015, (72-60).

• The Lady Vikings have lost its previous two conference games before entering this contest.
