LADY VIKINGS TOP SAGINAW VALLEY 65-59
Nov. 28, 2010
PETERSBURG, VA- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings improved to 3-2 overall with a 65-59 win over Saginaw Valley State University at the Chik-Fil-A Classic hosted by Virginia State University.
Stephanie Harper scored 14 of her game high 17 points in the first half. Harper finished one rebound shy of her third double-double of the season with nine boards. Kenyatta Gill and Shatara Jackson scored 12 apiece while DaShera Boone chipped in with 11 points.
The opening half was a see-saw affair with 9 ties and 11 lead changes before the Lady Vikings closed the first act with a 16-4 run to take a 36-27 advantage into the locker room.
Saginaw Valley (1-3) was not able to gain ground on ECSU's halftime lead as they traded baskets in the second half's opening minutes. The Lady Vikings maintained a double digit lead for most of the second stanza although their opponents twice cut their lead to seven points. The closest Saginaw Valley would get would be when a 3-pointer by Kelly Wesep with eight seconds to go accounted for the game's final point spread of 65-59.
Kristen Greene led SVS with a team high 15 points off the bench.
ECSU will return to action December 3-4, 2010 when they participate in the Ben Waterman Classic hosted by Central State University. They will face Kentucky Wesleyan on December 3rd at 1:00pm and Central State on December 4th at 4:00pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
