Final Stats

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings held off a feisty Saint Paul's Lady Tiger squad to take a 91-85 victory Thursday night at the RL Vaughan Center.

On their first possession of the second half, the Lady Vikings posted their biggest lead of the night (53-36) with a lay-up be Celeste Trahan at the 19:29 mark. Saint Paul's would put up a fight, twice cutting into the Lady Vikings' lead. The most significant one was a 22-9 run which trimmed the lead to 4 (62-58) after a jumper by Ciera Green. ECSU would respond by pushing the lead back to double digits for much of the second half although Saint Paul's never totally went away. In the second half, the Lady Tigers did outscore the Lady Vikings 49-40 but were ultimately done in by turnovers and their inability to rebound the ball. Saint Paul's finished the game with 36 miscues and were out-rebounded by ECSU 65-44

In totality, the Lady Tigers had no answer for the likes of Tanika Hudgins and Celeste Trahan. When Trahan was forced to sit most of the first half with two fouls, Hudgins picked up the scoring load with 16 of her team high 21 points. In the second half, Trahan scored 14 points to bring her total to 19 for the game. Hudgins, Trahan and Deanna Price all finished with double-doubles. Price, the nations steal leader, also contributed 5 steals and 6 assists. Ashley Bowman also netted double figures with 13 points and 6 assists.

Juantale Cook led the way for the Lady Tigers with 23 points while Gabrielle Johnson added 20 points and 8 rebounds. Saint Paul's (5-11, CIAA 2-7) falls to 1-3 in the CIAA Eastern Division.

The Lady Vikings (12-5, CIAA 9-1) will return to action on Saturday, January 27th as they travel to Richmond, VA to take on Virginia Union University. Game time is slated for 5:30pm at Barco-Stevens Gymnasium. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit
