ECSU Golf Places Fifth During CIAA North Tourney

SNOW HILL, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University men’s golf team placed fifth in the Central Athletic Association Northern division golf tournament Tuesday evening at the Cutter Creek Golf Course.

ECSU improved from its previous outing, shooting a total score of 652 on the par-72, 6,849 yard course; 34 (686) strokes ahead of Virginia State University (+110), who placed sixth and 41 (611) strokes behind tournament winners, Virginia Union University (+35).

Junior golfer Tyler Futrell led the Vikings, shooting a +7 (151) for the tourney and placing sixth on the leaderboard be-hind Union’s Robel Woldagabriel 150 (+6), VSU’s Samuel Reid 150 (+6), Chowan University’s Jordan Francis 150 (+6), CU’s Billy Britton 149 (+5), and Union’s Allan Day 147 (+3).

ECSU golfer William Fallon finished 13th (+14); while Taylor Guarracino finished 22nd (+20), Travis Fletcher placed 34th (+35), and Drew Turnage finished 44th (+132) to round out the Vikings’ golfers.

Elizabeth City State recorded team scores of 327 and 325 in two rounds of golf.

The Vikings will host its Spring Golf Tournament at the Pines Golf Course April 8 and 9th beginning with a shotgun start time at 8:30 a.m. each day. Teams featured will be St. Augustine’s University, Fayetteville State University, and host team ECSU.
