ELIZABETH CITY, NC-Virginia State's Jordan Anderson rushed for 214 yards and 5 touchdowns as the Trojans blew past Elizabeth City State University 51-28 Saturday afternoon at Roebuck Stadium.

The victory is the first for the Trojans at Roebuck Stadium since they took a 21-17 win back on October 12, 2002. With four conference games left, Virginia State sits atop the Northern Division and remains undefeated in CIAA play at 3-0, 5-1 overall.

Despite the scoring output by VSU, 14 of which were defensive points, the Vikings put up more total offense than the Trojans, 444 to 374. Yet the Trojans made the most of their scoring opportunities converting, all five of their trips to the red zone on the afternoon.

The Trojans jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the opening quarter. Anderson got the first of his five rushing touchdowns on the game's opening drive; a 12 play, 78 yard orchestration that consumed five and a half minutes. Then on ECSU's first possession Sean Smith picked off an errant pass by Tyrell Houghton and scampered 39 yards to the end zone for a 14-0 score at the 8:42 mark.

On the VSU's next drive all it took was one play, a 91-yard rushing TD (extra point failed) and the score ballooned to 20-0 with 6:40 left in the opening quarter.

With 8:29 left in the opening half, the Vikings got on the board after a 49-yard completion to the VSU 1-yard line was punched in by Petey Boone on the next play. The ECSU forced a punt on VSU's next drive but the Trojans halted any Viking momentum when Devonte Piggott converted another pick 6 for a 27-7 lead.

Houghton found Lovie Banks-Rose, Jr. on a 16 yard touchdown strike just before the half ended and the Trojans led 27-14 at the intermission.

ECSU was held scoreless in the third quarter while the Trojans tacked on 10 more points; another rushing TD by Anderson and a 32 yard field goal by Shawn Hunt. The two teams traded scores in the final quarter, another 1-yard score by Boone was countered by Anderson's fourth TD of the day with 7:27 left to give the Trojans a 44-21 cushion. Houghton found Montario Hunter for a 59-yard TD pass before Anderson's final TD of the day, a 2-yard run with 4:01 remaining accounted for the final point spread.
