Monterio Hand enters his tenth year as the wide receivers coach for the Vikings. A native of Winton, NC, Hand played wide receiver from 1998-2001. In his senior year, Hand received recognitions such as CIAA receiver of the week, All-CIAA honorable mention and also the Viking Offense MVP. Hand finished that year as the CIAA leader in receptions.

Since 2003, Hand has coached several All-CIAA players such as Chris Carter (2006), Billy Wiggins (2006), Dexter Manley (2009), Reggie Smith (2009), Karvin Gwaltney (2009, 2010), and Marvin Jackson (2006 Honorable Mention). Coach Hand was a part of two Eastern Division Championship Teams and coached in two CIAA Championship games (2006, 2008).

Coach Hand is always looking for ways to make his players better on and off the field. In addition to coaching, Hand plays a great part in the camps hosted by the ECSU Football program which help the development of the youth in the Elizabeth City community. He is a member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

A graduate of ECSU, Hand holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.
