Vikings Fall to Saint Augustine's in Emergy Gymnasium

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Elizabeth City State University men's basketball team fell 71-48 to Saint Augustine's University in its second Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association match-up Saturday afternoon in Emergy Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Vikings fall to 3-4 overall, 0-2 in conference action; while the Falcons improve to 4-8 and 2-0 on the season.

ECSU struggled offensively during the first half, shooting only 11.5 percent (3-of-26) from the field, (0-for-12) from behind the arc, and 64.3 percent (9-for-14) from the foul line. The Vikings tallied 17 total boards during the half; while SAU grabbed 31.

Going into the half with a 20 point deficit for the second game straight, ECSU was outscored 16-4 in the paint, 4-1 in points off turnovers, 9-5 in second chance points, and 3-0 in fast break points.

The Vikings picked it up in the second half, shooting 27.5 percent (11-for-40) from the floor, 14.3 percent (2-for-14) from downtown, and 81.8 percent (9-for-11) from the candy stripe; while SAU continued shooting the lights out of the ball, knocking down 50 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from behind the arc, 45.8 percent from the free throw.

As a team, ECSU shot 21.2 percent (14-for-66) from the field, 7.7 percent (2-for-26) from behind the arc, and 72 per-cent (18-for-25) from the foul line for the game; while SAU shot 46.2 percent from the field, 31.6 percent from down-town, and 47.2 percent from the free throw line.

Freshman guard Justin Faison finished with a career-high 13 points being the only ECSU player in double-figures; while Tyre Gathwright tallied a game-high 26 points for the Falcons.

The Vikings continue its three-game road swing in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to face Nova Southeastern at 2 p.m. in Rick Case Arena Tuesday, Dec. 19 in a non-conference match-up.
