ECSU Vikings Basketball Lands Northside High’s Top Recruit Zach Hobbs

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – First-year head coach John Hill and the ECSU men’s basketball team adds Northside High’s top recruit Zach Hobbs to its 2017-18 signing class.Hobbs, a native of Jacksonville, N.C., averaged 19.2 points per game; while adding 3.2 assists per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, and 1.9 steals per contest.

The 6-0, 150 pound shooting/point guard was a three-time Jacksonville Daily News Player of the Year, completed his high school career as Northside High’s All-Time Leading Scorer with 1,766 total points and a three-time conference Player of the Year. He was named District 2 Player of the Year and to the District 2 First-team (twice).

“Zach is an outstanding young man and is a person of high character and intellect,” stated Hill. “He has demonstrated throughout his high school career what special talent he possess. The ECSU Family is excited about having Zach to be a part of the rebuilding process for our program. I truly believe that he will serve as a great ambassador to uplift our program and University.”

Hobbs was All-State three-times, Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the North Carolina State Championship game, MVP of the Conference, MVP of the Christmas tournament, and MVP of the All-Star Classic. He was also named to the All-Conference Tournament team and the Christmas tournament All-Tournament team (twice).
