THREE VIKINGS NAMED TO 2010 CIAA ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

HAMPTON, VA- Angelo Sharpless headlines three members of the Elizabeth City State men's basketball team that have been named to the 2010 CIAA All-Rookie Team announced Wednesday afternoon. The All-Rookie team is selected by the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association. Angelo Sharpless has been unanimously voted as the 2010 CIAA Rookie of the Year. Sharpless, a six time CIAA Rookie of the Week, becomes the first Viking since Tyrone Smith (2001) to receive this honor. Off the bench for ECSU this season the Plymouth, NC native is the Vikings' top scorer at 13.4 points per game and has eclipsed 20 points three times, including a career-high 24 in an upset win at Virginia Union on February 11th. Joining Sharpless on the All-Rookie Team are Quintin Spady and Blake Price. Spady, who hails from Norfolk, VA has played in all 27 games for the Vikings this season, starting 11 and averaged 6.6 points per game. He leads the team in 3-point shots attempted and 3-pointers made with 43. Price, who was named Rookie of the Week once this season, has started three times in 27 appearances this season. He is averaging 5.6 points and has come on late in the season as one of the Vikings' top ball handlers, posting a nearly 2:1 assist to turnover ratio. The 2010 All-Rookie Team will be formally recognized at the tip off luncheon next Tuesday in Charlotte, NC. |
