FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Freshman guard Zaccheus Hobbs (22) and junior guard Shyheid Petteway (19) combined for 41 points in Elizabeth City State University men’s basketball team’s, 67-56 victory over Fayetteville State University in Capel Arena Wednesday evening.

With the win, ECSU improved to 11-12 overall and 4-9 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Northern Division; while the Broncos fall to 7-17 overall and 4-9 in conference action.

Elizabeth City State went into the half down 27-24 to FSU, before coming out of the half knotting the game at 27-all with 19:42 remaining in the contest off a three-pointer by Petteway. A back and forth second half, Fayetteville State took its final lead of the game with 9:17 remaining on the clock. A three-pointer off the finger-tips of Petteway gave ECSU a 50-49 lead at the 8:52 mark and the Vikings never looked back.

The Vikings finished the game shooting 47.1 percent from the floor, 43.5 percent from downtown, and 75 percent from the foul line; while the Broncos closed out the contest shooting 41.2 percent from the field, 18.2 percent from behind the arc, and 71.4 percent from the candy stripe.

Hobbs also added a team-high seven boards; while Petteway collected six. Fayetteville State was led offensively by Josh Bryant with 17 points; while Willie Gilmore tallied 12 in the effort.

Elizabeth City State is set to host Virginia State University Saturday, February 17 in the R. L. Vaughan Center for a CIAA Showdown. Game time is set for 2 p.m. for the women’s contest and 4 p.m. for the men’s game.
