ECSU Basketball Hosts Chowan for Winter Homecoming

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University men’s and women’s basketball teams will host Chowan Uni-versity Saturday Feb. 3 for its annual Winter Homecoming. It will also be ECSU’s Coaches vs. Cancer/Suits and Sneakers game.

Women’s game time is slated for 2 p.m., with the men to follow. The Lady Vikings enter the contest with a 4-14 overall record and a conference record of 2-8; while the men sit at 1-18 and 1-10. Chowan women come into Saturday’s contest 14-7 overall and 7-4 in conference action; while the Hawks are at 15-6 and 7-4.

The Lady Vikings fell 65-54 to Winston-Salem State University Monday evening in the CE Gaines Center, although; ECSU was led by senior guard Jalyn Brown with 21 points and two boards.

The men’s team fell 83-76 to Winston-Salem Wednesday evening and will be looking to capture their second win on the season. The Vikings are paced by senior guard Elon Edwards, who has been on a tear lately. Edwards averages 13.5 points a game and leads the team with 55 assists.

In the paint, senior forward Jordan Jones has been dominate, averaging 11.8 points per game and leading the team with 109 boards on the season. Freshman forward John Maynor is also averaging points in double-figures with 11.2.

The Lady Hawks are coming off a defeat to Livingstone College and is spearheaded by the play of Jordan Payne, who averages 15.6 points per contest. The Hawks defeated Salem International Wednesday evening and they are led by Jeremy Smith, who is averaging 15 points per game.
