ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University men’s basketball team dropped a 75-62 decision to Livingstone College Monday evening in the R. L. Vaughan Center. The Vikings are 1-4 versus the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Southern division on the season.

The Vikings went into the half down by a deficit of three, 45-42. ECSU shot 28.6 percent from the field, 50 percent from behind the arc, and 36.4 percent from the foul line during the second half; while holding the Blue Bears to shooting under 38.7 percent from the field, 10 percent from behind the arc, and 45.5 percent from the free-throw line.

For the game, the Elizabeth City State shot 39.2 percent from the floor, 54.5 percent from downtown, and 52.6 percent from the candy stripe; while LC shot 50.8 percent from the field, 25 percent from downtown, and 50 percent from the candy stripe.

Livingstone led by as many 14 points during the second half; while outshooting the Vikings 42-14 in points in the paint, 22-11 points off turnovers, 12-10 in second chance points, 14-2 in fast break points, and 26-19 in bench points. The game saw eight ties and 12 lead changes.

Freshman forward Shykeef Daniels led the charge for ECSU with 15 points; while sophomore forward John Maynor added 11 points and junior guard Shyheid Petteway recorded 10 in the effort.

Lydell Elmore was the leading scorer for the Blue Bears with 19 points; while teammate Roger Ray tallied 13 and Ramel Belfield added 12 in the victory. The Vikings are set to host Mid-Atlantic Christian on Tuesday, January 30 at 7 p.m. in the R. L. Vaughan Center.
