Vikings Set to Host Virginia State, Saturday Evening

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University men’s basketball team is set to host Virginia State University Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Vaughan Center. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.

ECSU stands at 0-13 on the season, 0-6 in league play. Against the Lincoln (PA), junior forward John Maynor recorded a team-high 22 points and added five boards in the loss. Senior guard Elon Edwards tallied 18 points, sophomore guard Shyhied Petteway scored 14, and senior forward Jordan Jones recorded eleven in the effort.

The Trojans enter the contest 14-3, 6-1, following their 80-54 victory over Chowan University, Wednesday evening at home. Richard Granberry averages 14.6 points per game to lead VSU offensively and tallies 8.1 boards per contest to lead the team on the defensive end.

In conference play, ECSU has four scorers in double-figures with Edwards leading the charge averaging 13.4 points per contest; while Jones averages 11.2 points per game. Maynor and Marshall add 10 points per contest rounding out the double-figure scorers. The Vikings are shooting .405 percent from the field, .317 percent from downtown, and .733 percent from the line.

Overall, the team is shooting .414 percent from the floor, .295 percent from downtown, and .651 percent from the foul line. Teams are shooting .469 percent from the field, .345 percent from behind the arc, and .722 from the candy stripe against the Vikings.
