Vikings Set to Host Chowan in CIAA North Division Rival Matchup

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University men’s basketball team is set to host Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Northern Division rival Chowan University in the R.L. Vaughan Center Saturday, Jan. 13 at 4 p.m. or following the women’s contest.

Follow the game via live stats here: ECSU enters the contest 5-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play; while the Hawks bring a 5-8 and 1-4 record coming into Saturday’s contest.

The Vikings are led by sophomore forward John Maynor, who averages 14.4 points per game; including 4.3 boards per game. Two-time CIAA Player of the Week Zaccheus Hobbs averages 11.9 points per game; including 1.9 boards per game and has a team-leading 17 steals on the season for ECSU.

The Vikings are getting outscored by their opponents 729 – 751 (-2.2 scoring margin) points per game, hold a negative 2.9 rebound margin under their opponents, but is +4 in turnover margin. Elizabeth City State averages 14.6 assists per game; while its opponents average 12 per game.

Thus far in conference action, ECSU is -10.3 in scoring margin, -3.3 in rebounding margin, and +2.7 in turnover margin. The Vikings dish out less assists than it opponents, (8.7 – 12.0) per game.

Maynor leads the team in conference action averaging 14.3 per game; while Hobbs averages 13.0 per game.

The Hawks have four of their starters averaging double-figures in scoring. Tim Hewett leads the team with 16.5 per game; while Robert Grubbs averages 13.1 per game, Demetrius Sanders averages 11.5 per game, and Gus Rowland averages 11.4 points per game; while Dino Muminovic leads the team in rebounds with 7.4 per game. The team is currently ranked sixth in the CIAA North; while ECSU sets at fourth in the division.
