RICHMOND, VA- The Virginia Union University Panthers used a later three-pointer and free throws to hold off Elizabeth City State University 69-63 Saturday night at Barco-Stevens Hall.
In a second half that featured 10 lead changes, the Panthers got some cushion at the 2:07 mark when James Theus made his only shot of the night, a three pointer, to make the score 66-60. On the Vikings' next offensive trip Quintin Spady answered right back with his fourth three-pointer of the night to pull ECSU within a possession at 66-63.
A Panther turnover gave the Vikings two shots at the basket on their next offensive possession but both came up empty. VUU pushed their lead to five, 68-63 on two free throws by Theus with 1:05 left and added another shot from the charity stripe by Calvin Brown for the final point spread.
