Final Stats

PETERSBURG, VA- The Elizabeth City State Vikings upset the #1 seeded Saint Augustine's College Falcons 11-6 Thursday afternoon in game one of the 2009 CIAA Baseball Tournament.

ECSU will face the host #2 seed Virginia State University tomorrow at 11:00am. The Trojans topped Shaw University 11-9 to remain in the winner's bracket of the double elimination tournament. The winner of the ECSU/VSU matchup will automatically advance to Saturday's Championship Game at 1:00pm.

After surrendering 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning the Vikings (12-22) scored three runs in the 3rd and one in the 4th to tie the game. In the 5th ECSU took the lead for good when the Vikings scored three runs on four hits including a leadoff solo homer by Stephen Green. The Falcons managed two runs in their half of the 5th but were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest. All-CIAA pitcher Styron Barfield went 8 full innings striking out five.
