ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Chowan University began the four game weekend series with two wins over Elizabeth City State 13-5 and 8-3 Saturday afternoon at Pasquotank County High School.

In game one, the Hawks jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back in the 13-5 win. Chowan scored in each of the first five innings, including five runs in their half of the first inning. The Hawks also had a big inning in the third, tacking on four more runs for a 10-1 advantage.

ECSU had more hits (9) than Chowan (8) but were unable to capitalize on any momentum, committing four errors and stranding 11 runners in the game.

In the nightcap, the Vikings held a 2-0 lead for the first two innings but would only manage one more run in their final at bat in an 8-3 setback. The Hawks got on the board with and RBI double and some solid base running in the third inning. John Hunter's double drove in CU's first run of the game and then he followed that by stealing home to tie the game with two outs in the inning. Two batters later and RBI single gave Chowan the go ahead run and the lead for good.

The Hawks added a run in the fourth and two runs in both the fifth and seventh inning to secure the win.

The teams will face off for the final two games on Sunday beginning at 11am at PCHS.
