ECSU Cross Country Finish Third at VSU Trojan Invite

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University men’s and women’s cross country teams finish third during their previous meet at the Virginia State University Invite, last Friday afternoon.

At possibly one of the best meets in ECSU history, the Vikings had three top seven finishers out of 21 runners in the field. Freshman Haleigh Powers came in second place with a finish time of 21:35.7 and an average mile time of 6:57.0; .24 seconds behind Virginia State’s Kayla Frank with 21:11.7, who finished first in the competition.

Sophomore LaTrina Gatling was another who answered the challenge by finishing sixth with a time of 23:31.6; while freshman Nyla Harris rounded out the ECSU runners who placed seventh or higher with a time of 23:33.2. Freshmen Quianna Boone-Fudge finished with a time of 31:42.9; while Te’Nel Kearney finished last with a time of 34:48.1.

On the men side, senior Jonquin Elliott came in with a finish time of 29:32.6 and in seventh amongst 28 runners. Senior Hyshem Staten finished in ninth with a time of 30:07.2; while Noah Gunter (32:42.3), David Drury (33:19.9), Efram Ro-sado (33:51.6) each finished in the top 20 runners.

Sophomore Lenox Poyner (34:44.1) and freshman Alexandro Tapia (35:32.1) rounded out the ECSU men runners finishing No. 21 and No. 22 in the field.

Both teams are set to travel to Greensboro, N.C. to compete in the Greensboro Invitational Saturday, September 30 beginning at 9 a.m.
