CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES STRONG AT REGULAR SEASON FINALE

Hyshem Staten topped the men's field at CIAA Pre-Conference Meet hosted by Livingstone College on Wednesday afternoon.

SALISBURY, NC-The Elizabeth City State University cross country teams finished the regular season with a strong showing at the CIAA Pre-Conference Meet hosted by Livingstone College.

The meet served as the final tune up before tomorrow’s CIAA Cross Country Championships scheduled to begin at 10am in Cary, NC.

The ECSU women earned their second team win of the season with a victory over the host Lady Blue Bears. The Lady Vikings swept the top five slots for a score of 15, their best team finish of the season. Dara Drury finished number one overall for the first time this season with a time of 14:17.00 in the 3K run. Marlee Putnam was a close second with a 14:39.00 followed by Qualnic Barksdale (14:52), Melissa Reid (15:05) and Khadijah Bryant (15:06).

On the men’s side, Hyshem Staten earned the top individual spot for their 4K course with a time of 13:51. Livingstone College won with a team score of 32 followed by the Vikings with a 34 while Fayetteville State placed third with a 55.

ECSU took three of the top five finishers with Staten, Jonquin Elliott (4th, 15:27.00) and Efrain Rosado (5th, 15:30).

Both teams will wrap up the 2015 season tomorrow at CIAA Cross Country Championships.
