ECSU WOMEN FINISH FIRST AT CROSS COUNTRY MEET

Hyshem Staten finished fourth in the men's field with a time of 31:40.3 at the Bowie State Homecoming Challenge Wednesday afternoon.

BOWIE, MD- The Elizabeth City State women and men’s cross country teams took first and second place respectively at the Bowie State University Homecoming Challenge held Wednesday afternoon at Jericho Park.

The Lady Vikings captured their first team victory of the season by one point, 28-27, over the host Bowie State Lady Bulldogs. Dara Drury placed the highest of the ECSU runners at third place with a time of 23:51.2 for the 5K (3.11 miles) course. The Lady Vikings also took fourth (Marlee Putnam) and fifth (Melissa Reid) with course times of 24:03.0 and 24:34.3.

Khadijah Bryant and Qualnic Barksdale finished seventh and eighth overall for ECSU.

On the men’s side, Hyshem Staten topped all ECSU performers, finishing fourth overall (31:40.3) for the 8K run. Five Viking runners took fourth through eighth place for a total team score of 30. Bowie had the top three finishers, led by Michael Aregay who topped the field with a time of 28:08.4.

Makayla Barnett paced the women’s field with a time of 21:57.7.
